About the Artist

Self-portraitBorn in Havana, Cuba, Myrtha Vega graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Havana. She fled from the Castro regime and came to the U.S. in the 1960s.

After earning a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Michigan, she worked in Montreal, Canada, designing public spaces for the 1967 World’s Fair, Expo ‘67. She subsequently worked as a Landscape Architect and Interiors Architect in the U.S. until 1999.

She began a serious pursuit of her interest in art in the late 1980s, studying with several Atlanta painters and Georgia State University.  Art is now her full time career.

Her work consists of abstracts, portraits, and landscapes in oil, acrylic and mixed media, and pen and ink collages.  She carries a sketch book with her at all times. Her art is in private collections in the U.S., France and Spain.
