My work consists primarily of portraiture and landscapes. I work on canvas and primed wood in acrylics and oils. Most of my plein air landscapes are finished on site. I paint very fast, intuitively, often all but disregarding the scene before me and relying largely on my own imaginary image derived from the site. I re-design the landscape, so to speak.
My paintings convey my perception of the character of the site. I do not try to accurately depict what I see, but rather try to produce a work of art inspired by nature. The landscape stirs my imagination and emotions and I convey those feelings with the use of intense colors, textures, and lines dictated by my vision of the site.
The bright sun and brilliant colors of my Cuban homeland are reflected in the vibrant colors that infuse many of my paintings. The experience of painting rewards me with a finished product that others enjoy, but my own greatest joy comes from the creative experience itself.
